water bottles and i don't mix

i was early to my gr4 class, where i'm a student teacher. i was waiting outside the classroom since the teacher wasn't actually there yet. across the hall is a gr7 classroom. some kids were also just waiting for their class to open too. the usual hanging around in the hallway.

i decided - i have a water bottle. let's open it and take a sip. WRONG MOVE. i couldn't open the bottle. i really tried too! i was getting embarrassed - there were some students from my class too watching... i was looking around, and a gr7 boy i guess has been watching my sad sad struggle with the water bottle... and asks me if i needed help.

i said yes, and he opened it oh-so-effortlessly. i noted that this gr7 is taller than me. and obviously a lot stronger. but that's not the worse part. the worse part is when they start asking me if i was a NEW STUDENT. and i had to tell them no.. i'm a student teacher.

i bet they started talking and laughing at me when i was out of earshot... that short lil asian student teacher who can't even open a water bottle... what a weakling! i'm just thankful i'm not teaching an older grade...

just as an offside:

Hahahaa... hilarious! Didn't we all predict that you'd be mistaken for a student when you started teaching?

You gotta do something to differentiate yourself from students...
